Konstruksi Pemahaman Kontekstual pada Suku Batak Toba dalam Perjumpaan Kristus dan Debata Mulajadi na Bolon

Abstract


Christ and Debata Mulajadi na Bolon are two distinct entities understood by Christianity and Batak-Toba culture. Christ is known as the incarnate λόγος (John 1:1-5) as well as the firstborn and invisible image of God (Colossians 1:15). Debata Mulajadi na Bolon, on the other hand, is only approached as the “supreme god of Batak-Toba”; although the titles attributed to him are similar to those attributed to God. This paper will construct the idea that Christ is Debata Mulajadi na Bolon himself. However, it must be recognized that there are specific differences in their theological understanding of the Trinity. Debata Mulajadi na Bolon is not a pagan figure but God who presents Himself as Debata Mulajadi na Bolon. The three biblical texts discussed in this paper (from Johaninum and Paulinum theologies, respectively), along with Niebuhr's typology, Christ the Transformer of Culture, and Bevans' synthesized contextual theology model, are the bridge to this contextualization effort.


Abstrak
Kristus dan Debata Mulajadi na Bolon merupakan dua entitas yang berbeda, yang masing-masing dipahami oleh kekristenan dan oleh kebudayaan Batak-Toba. Kristus dikenal sebagai inkarnasi λόγος (Yoh. 1:1-5) juga gambar Allah yang sulung dan tidak kelihatan (Kol. 1:15). Sedangkan Debata Mulajadi na Bolon hanya didekati dengan sebutan “dewa tertinggi Batak-Toba”; meskipun gelar-gelar yang disematkan padanya sekilas mirip dengan gelar yang dikenakan kepada Allah. Melalui tulisan ini akan dibangun konstruksi berpikir bahwa Kristus adalah Debata Mulajadi na Bolon itu sendiri, meskipun harus diakui adanya perbedaan-perbedaan khusus dalam pemahaman teologi Trinitas keduanya. Debata Mulajadi na Bolon bukanlah sosok kekafiran melainkan Allah yang menampilkan diri-Nya sebagai Debata Mulajadi na Bolon. Ketiga teks Alkitab yang akan dibahas dalam tulisan ini (masing-masing dari teologi Johaninum dan Paulinum), disertai dengan tipologi Niebuhr, Christ the Transformer of Culture, dan model teologi kontekstual sintesis dari Bevans adalah jembatan usaha kontekstualisasi ini.
